|EARTH DAY APRIL 22|
Celebrate Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22 and help clear the air by riding MTA! By taking MTA Local and Commuter Buses, Metro Subway, Light Rail and MARC Train, you not only save money but also help save the planet by reducing greenhouse gases and other pollutants. So save yourself the aggravation of driving and discover the many reasons why riding MTA is a smart and healthy choice – not only on Earth Day, but all year round!
MAY IS CLEAN COMMUTE MONTH
May is nationally designated Clean Commute Month because it is the beginning of the ground-level ozone season, when Code Red and Orange Ozone Action Days frequently occur. On those days, motorists are encouraged not to drive their cars to work because pollution produced by cars causes ground-level ozone, or smog. Single occupancy vehicles produce 20 percent of the dangerous ozone-emission pollution in the Baltimore area. Using MTA buses and trains helps cleanse the air by taking thousands of cars off the road.
DUMP THE PUMP DAY JUNE 19
Thursday, June 19 is National Dump the Pump Day. If you are currently driving to work, we encourage you to try MTA and take advantage of the convenience and cost savings instead of sitting in your car stuck in traffic. In these tough economic times with high gas prices, MTA is an economical way to save money. The latest Transit Savings Report from the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) shows that a two person household that downsizes to one car can save nearly $10,000 a year. So avoid those high gas prices and relax while riding Local and Commuter Bus, Metro Subway, Light Rail or Marc Train!
ELECTRIC VEHICLE (EV) RECHARGING POINTS
MTA offers EV Recharging Points at White Marsh Park and Ride, BWI Rail, Odenton and Dorsey MARC stations, and Falls Road and Mt. Washington Light Rail stations (click on link to view map). EV charging is also available at Baltimore's Penn Station.
Park your electric vehicle while getting on a hybrid bus or train to go to work! Charging time takes about 6 to 8 hours, so when you return,
your vehicle will be fully charged and ready to go. This initiative is part of the MTA's commitment to the environment and the conversion of Local Buses to hybrids as they move closer to the creation of a Green Mobility system that provides commuters with an integrated and sustainable way to get from place to place
